Description
R2T Tile Adhesive is a high-performance, flexible adhesive, designed for applications that require enhanced bonding strength and resistance to moisture, vibrations, and movement. It is suitable for bonding ceramic, porcelain, and natural stone tiles to various substrates, including floors, walls, and exterior surfaces. The R2T classification in accordance with European Standard EN 12004 indicates a high-strength (R2) adhesive with flexibility (T). It is ideal for demanding tile installations, such as those involving large-format tiles, heavy tiles, or in areas with slight movement or underfloor heating. Ingredients for R2T Tile Adhesive Formulation: Portland Cement (Cement) – 1 part The primary binder that provides high strength and durability to the adhesive, ensuring a strong bond between the tiles and the substrate. Fine Silica Sand – 3 to 4 parts Used as a filler material to adjust the consistency and workability of the adhesive. It also enhances bonding strength and stability. Marble Powder or Limestone Powder – 0.5 part Improves the smoothness of the adhesive and increases spreadability, ensuring even application. Polymer Additive (Redispersible Polymer Powder - SBR, or Acrylic Polymers) – 0.1 part This additive enhances flexibility, adhesion strength, and water resistance, making it suitable for wet areas and dynamic substrates. Hydroxypropyl Methylcellulose (HPMC) – 0.05 part Increases the open time of the adhesive, allowing for more working time during tile placement and reducing the risk of premature drying. Plasticizer – 0.02 to 0.05 parts Improves the workability and consistency of the adhesive, making it easier to spread and apply. Water – As required The water should be added gradually until the desired paste-like consistency is reached. The adhesive should be thick enough to hold its form but not too thick to be difficult to spread. Antifungal or Antimicrobial Additives (Optional) Can be included to help prevent mold and mildew growth, especially in wet areas like bathrooms, kitchens, or swimming pools. Cement Additives (Optional) Retarders may be used in hot weather to slow the curing time. Accelerators may be used in cold climates to speed up curing time. Instructions for Preparation: Mix Dry Ingredients: In a clean container, combine the Portland cement, fine silica sand, and marble or limestone powder. Stir the mixture thoroughly to ensure that the dry ingredients are evenly distributed. Add the Polymer Powder: Gradually add the redispersible polymer powder (SBR or acrylic polymer) to the dry mix. This polymer will enhance the flexibility and adhesion strength of the adhesive. Incorporate Hydroxypropyl Methylcellulose (HPMC): Add the HPMC into the dry mix to increase the adhesive’s open time, allowing you more time to adjust the tiles during installation. Add Plasticizer: Introduce the plasticizer to improve the adhesive's workability and spreadability. Gradually Add Water: Slowly pour in the water while stirring the mixture. Add just enough water to achieve a smooth, thick paste-like consistency. Ensure that the adhesive is not too runny. Check Consistency: The adhesive should be smooth and workable. It should be thick enough to stay on the trowel without dripping but still easy to spread. Application: Apply the adhesive to the surface using a notched trowel. Spread evenly and apply enough adhesive to the substrate to create a consistent bond. Press tiles into the adhesive firmly, ensuring a strong bond. Allow Curing: Allow the adhesive to cure undisturbed for 24-48 hours before exposing the area to moisture or heavy loads. Full curing time may vary depending on the ambient temperature and humidity. Advantages of R2T Tile Adhesive: High Bonding Strength: Offers strong adhesion, even for large-format or heavy tiles. Flexibility: Ideal for substrates with slight movement, such as floors with underfloor heating or in areas exposed to vibration. Water Resistance: Suitable for wet environments like bathrooms, kitchens, and swimming pools. Extended Open Time: The extended open time allows for longer working periods, giving you more time to adjust tiles during installation. Versatility: Can be used for both wall and floor tile installations, including on various substrates like concrete, plaster, and tiles. Durability: Forms a long-lasting bond that resists cracking or movement, even in high-stress applications. Enhanced Workability: The plasticizer and additives improve spreadability, making the adhesive easy to apply and spread. Additional Notes: Coverage: Typically, one 20 kg bag of R2T Tile Adhesive covers 4-6 m² at a 3mm thickness, depending on the size of the tiles and the surface preparation. Open Time: Open time typically lasts around 20-30 minutes, depending on temperature and humidity. Working Temperature: Ideal working temperatures range between 5°C and 35°C. Storage: Store the adhesive in a cool, dry place, away from moisture and extreme temperatures, to prevent premature curing. This R2T Tile Adhesive formulation provides a strong, flexible, and durable bond that is perfect for demanding tile installations in areas subject to movement or vibrations.
